I just finished John Grisham's second novel, The Firm. I know that this book was written in the early 90's and the movie with Tom Cruise was made soon after, but it seems amazing that there have been SO many changes in the intervening time. In this book, there is no Internet, no cell phones, and simple wire tap surveillance... I mean the book is great, but it just amazed me that things were that different in only15-17 years... the story centers around a genius law student named Mitchell McDeere... Mitch is wooed by a very rich and generous law firm in Memphis, Tennessee... because he grew up in very poor circumstances, he jumps at the chance to move up in the world... but his allegiance to the law firm soon comes into question when he is confronted with the knowledge of murders, the presence of the FBI, and possible tax fraud that swirl
around the the firm of Bendini, Lambert and Locke.
